Cubes and K'nex

Today Adam's math lesson was on Cubes we pulled out the K'nex and played!!

We discussed the differences between a square and a cube.

Then we made more shapes.

Kevin got in on the action during his free time as well. He made a 3D triangle and turned it into a swing.

Can I just say here, I love homeschooling. I love finding fun ways to teach my boys. I love seeing their little brains work and their knowledge grow each day. Everyday I feel so blessed to have this opportunity.

Math skills

This week Kevin has started subtraction and Adam is learning about real graphs. To start Kevin's unit we began with a subtraction hopping game. I would hold up a subtraction equation and he would find the answer by jumping forward the first number and backwards the second number. I had drawn the squares and numbers with chalk ahead of time. The kids all loved the game and we did addition for Adam. Isaac just liked jumping in the squares!

The boys all played this game for over an hour... Crazy!!

I began Adam's lesson on real graphs by using our tiles as the graph and all the kiddo shoes off the shoe rack as the objects! We made our own real graph and then answered questions such as who has the most sandals or who has the most shoes, church shoes, tennis shoes and so on!! Adam loved that he got through the whole lesson without having to sit down!

Art Class

The boys love their art classes. The class contains a historical element and they replicate an art form to Create their own masterpiece! Here are some pictures from last week's art class.

The children were asked to tell a story with their art piece. Adam had a story of a mama and baby shark that were watching over all of their eggs. Kevin's story was a little more morbid and was about a bear squishing the eggs out of a snake...

Sick Day

Last week we had our first sick day. Although we had fantastic lesson plans planned out and fun games to play for math learning, we woke up with a couple boys with fevers. I had discussed with my Hubby how we would address sick days since normally (last year, when Kevin went to school) we would keep him home and have a movie/relax day. Since we are always home it is easy to say, "well just do this, or that, then we will watch a movie" we decided we would treat it as we did through preschool and kindergarten and call it a sick day. In other words work on recovering fast by resting those little bodies, which is super hard for a bunch of boys. I brought out some activities to help move the hours along without anyone having to exert too much energy and certainly no more throwing up, yuck!

We did a little painting with both paint brushes and sponges

Then we brought out the play dough, I admit we did a little number fun, but there is nothing wrong with playdough with a purpose!

The boys were very proud of their numbers!

Then we rounded out our sick days with some rock band on the Wii!

There you have it! We can have sick days even while homeschooling!
